How to convert MHF gamesave to another region using sgdeemer plugin Nottool

Not too long ago, I posted about a guide from Kenshinjeff on how to convert gamesaves for MHF2 for MHP 2ndG. I tried the guide and was successful in creating a conversion from ASA MHF to USA MHF2 using sgdeemer. Currently, Kenshinjeff has changed the guide to using another plugin, Laboko: link.

I did not want to try the new method and as I still had the sgdeemer plugin and was successful before in converting using it, I decided to try recollecting the steps. After a few mistakes, I manage to convert successfully. Note that you need custom firmware for this, the sgdeemer plugin and the gamesave for the region that you want to convert to. (For e.g. my copy is a Asia MHF, to convert to my USA MHF2, I need to get a save game copy of USA MHF, you can get this from gamefaqs.com)

1. Download and copy the plugin, sgdeemer to your psp memory stick. Paste the savegame data to the SAVADATA folder as well and do a backup of your SAVADATA folder. (For this savegame data, I pasted in ULUS10084 which is the save data for USA MHF) 

2. Enable the plugin from your recovery menu.

3. Start the game which you want to convert from. (Mine is ASA MHF)

4. Do a save for this game so that sgdeemer can create unencrypted copies of the save game. With sgdeemer activated, game saving will take longer than usual so remember to disable it at the end of all this. You may exit this game now.

5. Next, start the game which is for converting to. (Mine is USA MHF2)

6. Choose new game and it should prompt for a game conversion of previous save game. (This is specifically for MH games as they allow porting over for old save games, I’m not too sure how this step should continue for other games)

7. Do a conversion for your downloaded save data and after converting, save this character for sgdeemer to work its magic again. (Don’t worry, you can easily save over and replace this character with your own later. This step is just to create a ‘blueprint’ of the new region for your own gamesave)

8. Exit the game and connect your psp to your computer. 

9. Under the PSP folder, you should see a new folder SAVEPLAIN, created by sgdeemer. This folder contains your gamesave as well as the new gamesave. (Mine has ULAS420600, I recognize this as my ASA MHF game, ULUS1008400 is the save data I copied in earlier so this is the USA MHF gamesave. Lastly, there is a ULUS1026600 which I assume is the gamesave for USA MHF2. If you have difficulty recognizing this files, it will be better not to save any other games when you enabled sgdeemer for this. Sgdeemer appends two zeros to the save data folder)

10. In your original save data, you will find SDDATA.BIN and SDINFO.BIN as well as the .bin file named like your gamesave folder. Copy SDDATA.BIN and SDINFO.BIN.

11. Open up the folder of gamesave that you downloaded from the net and paste the two files from step 10 over. (Mine is ULUS1008400 and it contains only the ULUS10084.bin. For people converting from one region to another for a same game, the two .bin files from step 10 might just have to be replaced. I have no idea how this works out so it’s best you backup first before trying.)

12. Start up the second game again and choose new game to activate the prompt for game conversion. You should see your character now instead of the downloaded ones.

13. Do the conversion and save your ported character before exiting. You can now disable the sgdeemer plugin and delete the SAVEPLAIN folder and files.
