How to convert your PSP game saves from one region to another

May 15, 2008

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I’ve actually ended up with an ASIA MHF UMD and a US MHF2 UMD. I didn’t know at first but and to my horror, when I tried to convert my MHF game save to MHF2, nothing happen and I was stuck with two incompatible Monster Hunter games.

PSP was known to be region-free but this was one example where region still does matter. MHF2 requires a MHF game save of the same region in order to convert. Now, I’ve finally found out how to overcome this shortfall. However, you’ll need a PSP with custom firmware as the software needed to convert game save regions was written in the form of a plugin - Savegame-Deemer (a very useful CFW plugin by HELLCAT). I’ve successfully tested with 3.90 m33, converting an ASIA MHF game save to US MHF game save for conversion to my US MHF2 game!

I began searching for such a guide as I believe it was created due to the popularity of MHP 2ndG where many MHF2 players could not wait for the English port and wanted to start playing first. I google for it and found that there are a few ways and guides to do it. I stick to this one and the instructions were clear and most importantly, everything worked smoothly on the first try: Guide by kenshinjeff. (Link refreshed) His site has information on MHP 2ndG translation patch too. Thanks for the guide!

Just to add on: For those who wants to convert from MHF/MHP to MHF2/MHP2 (I didn’t try converting to MHP2 but I believe it should work to), you’ll need the game save from the region which you want to convert to. For my case, I wanted to convert my ASIA MHF to US MHF2, thus, I require a US MHF game save. You can get them at gamefaqs.com or google for them. After that just follow the guide by kenshinjeff, everything falls in nicely even though you are converting different games from what the guide refers to (MHF2 to MHP 2ndG). I might do a proper screenshot guide of my own after I complete my MHF Village quests and move on to MHF2.

  1. I actually have the exact same problem, but with another game (Metal Gear Acid 2). A friend of mine loaned it to me, I finished it almost twice, and now I can’t find a game with the same region code without spending too much money.

I tried to view the guide you posted, but it gives me a broken link. Could you look in to that, please? I would very much like to read it myself.

  2. Oh dear, that original page is gone. Here’s an alternative source:

I hope it works for MGA2 too!

  3. Oops. Sorry. This just goes to show, free != good. I’ll probably drop by the datacenter to reset the server next week or something like that.

  4. Thanks, kenshinjeff! The page is showing again.

  7. Anyone know if this tool works for PSX eboots? I have FF8 PAL and NTSC versions, and my NTSC copy messes up right at the end of disc one, while PAL messes up right at the start, so wondering if I can change the region on my NTSC save to PAL to get past this little problem…
